Grade 2 machine parts that are in a vacuum environment are validated with an RGA measurement. The products are placed in a vacuum chamber, which is then pumped down to a pressure of approximately 1E-7 mbar. The products must not emit too much gas, because if they do, the vacuum cannot be maintained instantly.
During this measurement, the pressure and outgassing of volatile and non-volatile hydrocarbon compounds are measured. After 10 hours, or earlier if the specification is met, the measurement process is stopped. The values obtained, H2O – CxHy volatile – CxHy non-volatile, are recorded in the RGA report. This report is supplied with the batch of products as proof that the RGA is within specification.
